Hi,

My name is Margaret and I am an Australian Catholic. I was motivated to begin this blog because of what I learned about the Schiavo case. I still believe that there was an attempted strangulation that was not detected at the time. I am keeping this blog going as I expand into other topics of interest that are associated with the culture of death.

Since this blog began events in the world have been moving at a fast pace. We have a situation of an undeclared jihad between Islamofacists who just love death to the point of being willing to commit suicide as they murder as many others as possible, and the west. The world is lurching towards an extreme situation. I believe this is in part due to the way in which the west has abandoned many of its moral values e.g. the attitude towards stem-cell research using aborted fetuses, or the latest which is the advocacy of the use of people who are not dead but are brain damaged for experimental purposes.

There are many topics that one can raise in relation to remaining in a culture of life as opposed to belonging to the culture of death. How many are up to facing the real facts and issues, and not hiding behind platitudes or name calling, slapping people down and attempting to stifle debate by claiming that speaking out on a subject somehow shows a lack of tolerance.

Saying No to the Culture of Death is also about speaking out against those who contribute to the lack of justice that we see in this world. Of concern are cases such as that of the owners of St. Rita's in New Orleans who failed to evacuate their residents, thus endangering their lives, during hurricane Katrina. If the jury failed to convict this couple because of the levee bank issue, then they have not stuck to the facts of the case - that the couple had a duty of care to the residents, and that they should have put into immediate action an evacuation plan as soon as the warning of a hurricane approaching was given. It cannot be said that justice has been served when this form of negligence is rewarded with an acquittal.

There is little difference in the outcome of this case, and the outcome of the Schiavo case, when Michael Schiavo was given court permission to cruelly execute his brain damaged wife through starvation and dehydration after the withdrawal of her feeding tube. In that case, the rights of the disabled were considered to be non-existent, such that what was patently false (that is the faulty recall of what Terri was supposed to have said about not wanting to be on life support - not on a feeding tube), was accepted as truth. In this Katrina case it seems that the drownings of the disabled residents was blamed upon the failure of the levee banks which caused flooding.

Another issue of interest is that of embryonic stemcell research, and the related issue of the use of RU486 for the purpose of abortion (a use that I view with alarm because of the potential risks that the media refuses to acknowledge). Embryonic stemcell research has failed totally to date, such that any stemcells that have been created have led to malignant tumors.  On the other hand adult stemcell research has had many successes but remains unfunded by big business and government. The line is to promote embryonic stemcell research by appealing to the idea that a cure for diabetes, Parkinsons Disease, and Alzheimers Disease is imminent and this is simply not true.

As a wife and mother of three sons, I have a life outside of politics and blogging.
